Voice Therapy

Voice disorders encompass a spectrum that vary from mild hoarseness to complete loss of voice, often presenting with unusual pitch, volume, or vocal quality. While elderly adults are most likely to have a voice disorder, it can affect children too.

Voice disorders and misuse are prevalent among children. Often, they resort to shouting, screaming, yelling, or excessive talking to gain attention, which can lead to severe vocal abuse issues. Inflammation of the vocal folds, chronic laryngitis, vocal nodules, vocal polyps, and contact ulcers can result from these behaviors. Our treatment approach focuses on enhancing vocal quality, promoting healthy vocal hygiene, and preventing vocal abuse to address these issues effectively.

Voice disorders in adults may also result in vocal abuse and any type of behavior that can strain and injure the vocal folds. Additionally, there are neurological conditions that affect adults such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease,  amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and strokes which may impact vocal quality and function.
